But the concept of 10-minute food delivery was our shiny new toy for a bit there. Would you prefer getting your food delivered to you in 10 minutes, or are you also super suspicious of it all?

The corporate schedule and the daily pile of tasks have us all in a chokehold. If you’ve been working for some time, you’ve definitely figured out that eating the right meals at the right time is the trick. Often we forget about eating or bringing in a lunchbox. There’s also the constant supply of coffee that’s less of a refreshment and more of an IV drip. This is where food delivery apps come in. It’s like all of human evolution has come to make this dream come true—food available at all times, wherever you need it.

So why did 10 mins delivery come in?

Most restaurants accept delivery partners from various food apps to increase the number of orders they give out every day. Since the food is essentially the same on all platforms, the primary food delivery apps started competing on the average delivery time. These started with promising a false waiting time to indicate “super quick” deliveries, which then turned into the 10 mins delivery we know today.

And yes, getting food fast is perfect; it’s better than perfect. But it’s simply too good to be true.

In case you’re too stressed and busy to find out how it all works, let us break it down for you. The restaurants that do agree to help with 10 min delivery have to keep the food ready (dishes with the most traction) in advance so they can pack it up quickly and hand it over to the delivery agent. Who then go fast and furious on our roads to make it within that timeslot. Ask yourself, have you ever made biryani in 10 mins? Exactly.

The plight of the delivery agents has been known for years. As they manage their salary concerns, must we really normalise the turbo behaviour we expect of them? Is it worth it? Can’t we wait a few minutes for safe delivery and fresh food? Are we really that hungry?

This is why HOGR doesn’t intend to step into the 10 mins delivery bandwagon. We’ll deliver your food, and it’ll reach you in time, but since teleportation isn’t a reality yet, it’ll reach you safely. This is how we approach the restaurants as well: we deliver it but without this man-made rush for it. The restaurants get the time to ensure that your order is prepared right, packed right, and handed over to the delivery agent. The delivery agent then arrives with your food at your doorstep without panting or risking their life for it.

Food is and will always be about food, not speed. HOGR’s keeping it that way.

As you look through people’s experiences with the 10 mins food delivery, you’ll find tales of reheated food dishes and the occasional worm sighting. There’s a lot at risk when we speed overrides quality. We’re taking too many steps in the other direction when it comes to food, be it groceries or simple food delivery.

HOGR fundamentally serves as a space for food enthusiasts. It’s where the love of food brings people together to talk about the most integral part of our life—food. Be it cravings, restaurant ratings, or fusion foods, HOGR’s got room for it all. Foodies and their cravings make the app the colourful space that it is. People discover new dishes and hidden gems in town by following other foodies. It takes the evergreen question of “Where do I eat today?” and answers it at length.

While we speed things up in every aspect of our life, like work, art, responses, calls, goals, and strategies, it’s important we slow things down around food. It’s the little things in life that bring us joy, and if we’re chewing food down with the passion of an F1 driver, we’re missing the whole point of it.

We all moved on from the fascination of junk food very quickly.
