The kitchen is one of the most important places in your house. The kitchen is the heart of your home, where you can create delicious meals for yourself and your family. But who has time to spend in a messy kitchen? If you want to make life simpler, try these easy kitchen hacks!

Use olive oil to restore your cutting boards.

If you’ve got a wooden cutting board that looks worn, give it a little love with olive oil! Pour about 1/4 cup of olive oil on the surface and rub it in with your hands. Wipe off any excess oil with a paper towel, then let the cutting board dry out for at least 4 hours before using it again.

If you find yourself constantly frustrated by the lids on your plastic storage containers getting stuck—or worse, breaking off—you’re not alone!

The trick is to use an old toothbrush to clean out any food particles that may be lodged between the lid and container before applying extra pressure when closing it. This will prevent them from getting stuck together in future uses and save you from having to get creative with tools like spatulas or spoons, so they stay shut tight while transporting leftovers around town or storing them at home without worrying about spills happening later on the road (or wherever else).

Line your fridge shelves with plastic wrap.

This hack is a no-brainer, but we still found that it made our lives easier. Line the bottom of your fridge shelves with plastic wrap to help keep food fresher for longer, and make it easier to pull out items in need of use.

This tip is especially helpful when you have kids who eat at different times from each other. You can easily distinguish between foods by labeling each item with a piece of masking tape under the plastic wrap (and if you’re concerned about chemicals in your food touching the plastic wrap, don’t be—it’s FDA approved). Just wash off any spills or messes as soon as they occur, and voila! The entire process takes less than five minutes, which means this one really isn’t rocket science.

Store onions and potatoes in paper bags.

You can keep onions and potatoes fresher if you store them in paper bags. This keeps them dry and away from light, heat, pests, and other things that might make them go bad prematurely.

The same goes for garlic: store it in a basket or mesh bag to keep it fresh longer.
