Ingredients of Chole Bhatura
- 2 cups soaked overnight chickpeas
- 2 chopped onion
- 1/4 cup tomato puree
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 5 cloves garlic
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
- 1 1/2 teaspoon chana masala powder
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1 tablespoon ginger
- 3 tablespoon onion paste
- salt as required
- 1 teaspoon garam masala powder
- 1 teaspoon red chilli powder
For Dough
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 3 teaspoon yogurt (curd)
- refined oil as required
- salt as required
- 1/4 tablespoon wheat flour
For Garnishing
- 2 tablespoons chopped coriander leaves

Step by Step Guide to making the best Chole Bhature Recipe
Step 1: Put the chickpeas under pressure.
Soak chickpeas in water overnight or for 6–8 hours to make chole. Then, place a pressure cooker on high heat and add the chickpeas that have been soaked in it. Also, add one tea bag, or you may also add 2-3 tea leaves and cover it in a cloth, along with salt to taste. For 15 to 20 minutes, cook the chickpeas. (Note: Adding tea leaves or a tea bag will turn the gravy’s dark brown color black.)
2. Sauté the onion.
In the meantime, heat a small amount of oil in a pan over medium heat. To the pan, add the cumin seeds and onion slices. Once the onion is golden brown, add the onion paste, ginger, and garlic powder. Finally, add tomato puree after cooking the items until the raw garlic flavor has gone.
Step 3: Cook the chole while adding spices.
Add the turmeric, red chili powder, coriander powder, and chana masala when the oil has separated. Add the cooked chole and a little water after cooking the tomato-onion combination for an additional two minutes. To combine the masala with the chole or chickpeas, stir well. After a few minutes of cooking, taste the salt. Add chopped onion and coriander leaves as garnish.
Step 4: Make the dough.
Now, combine wheat flour, atta, all-purpose flour, or maida on a dough-kneading plate to make the bhaturas. Then season it with salt and oil. Mix well. Mix the flour with the yogurt, then thoroughly knead the dough. You can knead the dough and add a little water. When it’s finished, place a kitchen towel over the dough to allow it to rise.
Step 5: Prepare and serve the bhatura.
Put a kadhai on high heat, divide the dough into equal portions and make large puris (bhatura). These bhaturas should be carefully added to the oil. Continue by using the remaining dough. Then grab a platter and serve up hot Chola bhatura!
Tips
- Ghee can be added to the bhatura to soften it and make it more flavorful.
- Add some amchur powder to impart a spicy-tangy flavor to the chole.
- Dry roasting the spices before adding them to the dish will enhance their flavor.
