5 Ingredients that are thought to be unhealthy but are not!

Ghee is a staple in every Indian household. It’s hard to forget the days when your grandmother would stuff multiple spoonfuls of ghee into a roti. As kids, we poured a ton of ghee onto anything we ate, from rice to roti, even bread. It put a desi twist on any food and we could never get enough.

As we grew, we were always told how this delicious touch of flavor was unhealthy and that it was an unnecessary fat. The opinion became so popular that individuals started eliminating this product completely from their diet.

However, recent studies have shown that the fat present in ghee does not break down easily thus reducing the risk of cell damage. Moreover, ghee also aids in faster and more effective digestion.

So, the next time you are looking to make your food a little more delicious, don’t hesitate to add a generous spoon of ghee.

Potatoes:

Potatoes have, from time immemorial, given us multiple mouth-watering dishes to savor. It’s hard to think of any other vegetable that has contributed so much in satisfying the human palette. The vegetable has gained so much public recognition that multiple fan pages have emerged through time in its appreciation.

Although it has received much criticism for being nothing but a ball of carbs, this vegetable is contributing to your nutrition in more ways than you recognize. Potatoes are a rich storehouse of Vitamin C, so much so, that half of your daily recommended intent is fulfilled by a single medium-sized potato. It also houses vitamin B, potassium, and various minerals. It should be a crime for such a vegetable to be healthy.

Carbs have been a question of debate for decades now. There are enough no-carb and low-carb diets on the list to induce fear in anyone that’s looking to lose weight or reduce sugar intake.  However, carbs are a widely misunderstood food group. The fight is not against carbs as a whole, it’s certain types of carbs.

There are essentially two types of carbs: Simple and Complex. Simple carbs are broken down easily by the body, while it takes more energy to break down complex carbs. And your answer is right there. Since simple carbs take less energy, they get broken down faster, thus leading to an excess of stored insulin.

Carbs like sweet potatoes, black beans, whole fruits, and more are complex enough for your body to use enough resources to break them down.
